The Carrot King

In November 2014, AMARC, the World Association of Community Radio, held an international contest of programs about food, in conjunction with an international food conference held by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

Donna Lonna Kitchen, a show on KHOI Community Radio in Ames Iowa, was one of 41 winners and one of two representing the USA. In the show, hosts Donna Prizgintas and Lonna Nachitgal interviewed a local carrot farmer, Gary Guthrie, who explains many aspects of carrots, from history and philosophy to taste to growing tips.

AMARC Project Manager, Karine Poirier, first explains AMARC, this contest, and why they chose The Carrot King as a winning show. Then we hear a portion of the winning Donna Lonna Kitchen show.
