The Music of Japan

Taiko and Koto performer, Dianne Daugherty will present a journey through the sounds of Japan.  The heart-beat of the Taiko Drum, the mystic of the shakuhachi and the way in which the koto evokes feelings of nostalgia and longing are a few of the sounds that will be illuminated.  The identity of the Japanese people have been shaped by outside influences from China and the West, but also through their periods of isolation.  A look and listen to the music of Japan through these historical eras can reveal a great deal about a country that continues to fascinate and intrigue us.
