The Red Diaper Baby Brunch

Janet Coleman of WBAI-Pacifica NYC, organized an event that featured testimonials of people whose parents were persecuted and blacklisted during the “Red Scare” of the 1950’s because of alleged affiliation with the Communist Party. The event was recorded at the Cornelia Street Cafe in Greenwich Village, NYC. The speakers were children of well-known authors and actors who were blacklisted. Segments of their testimonials are featured here on Sprouts.

The testimonials and subsequent responses to the event brought to light that a certain generation, known as “The Red Diaper Babies,” was traumatized by the persecution they experienced when their parents were blacklisted and that this story has never properly been told.

At the beginning of this Sprouts show, Janet Colemen puts the testimonials into context by describing the historical event known as the “Red Scare,” and the new understanding she gained from organizing this event.
