The VA’s Hotline Is for Veterans and their Families in Trouble

As the number of Veterans begins to rise the VA is working to help them adjust to civilian life with programs like Reverse Boot Camp, educational benefits and more.  Still many veterans find they can’t adjust or find the help they need which has led to a rate of suicide higher than the general public.  The Veterans Crisis Line can be the lifeline a veteran or family member needs to find the help they need.

If you are a veteran or a family member or even a friend that knows a veteran that needs help coping with life you can call the Veteran Crisis Line at 1-800-273-8255 and press 1 or text a message to 838255.  This is one way to head off more serious problems that could lead to suicide down the line.

Our guest on today’s show is Cherie Durkin M.S., RN, Suicide Prevention Coordinator Mental Health Program at the Kansas City VA Hospital.  She will talk about the Crisis hotline and programs available at the local VA.  So tune in and find out what you can do to help our Veterans.
