Host John Shuck speaks with theologian/activist Matthew Fox, author of 30 books who was silenced by the Vatican for his views. In his latest book, A Way to God: Thomas Merton’s Creation Spirituality Journey (2016), Fox describes Merton’s conversion away from the dualistic, patriarchal “Fall / Redemption” Christianity to a faith informed by concepts of “original blessing”, eastern religion, and the works of Master Eickhart. Fox discusses the roles of science in understanding Creation, of anger in transformative spirituality and the sacred in activism, referring to both the Civil Rights Movement and the present-day struggle at Standing Rock. In the beginning of the show, Fox provides evidence that Merton was assassinated by the CIA.
