Wednesday MidDay Medley presents Big Bang Buffet’s Black Sheep Rising – Live on the Radio!
Mark welcomes performers from Big Bang Buffet’s “Black Sheep Rising,” who will have just performed their benefit show for 90.1 FM the night before at The Buffalo Room. Since the stage show is now “sold out,” Wednesday MidDay Medley is presenting a special live radio broadcast of “Black Sheep Rising” featuring original pieces, live musical performances, and a special piece directed by Beth Marshall, produced only for the radio.
Contributors include: Ron Megee, Jen Harris, Calvin Arsenia, Beth Marshall, Jon “Piggy” Cupit, Maria Vasquez Boyd, Ryan Wilks, and Nico Gray. We will also talk with cast members: Michael McQuary, Janet Henry, Nico Gray, BJ McBride, and Linda Barnhouse. The Kansas City based band, The Sleazebeats (Charlie Colborne, Bill Belzer with Jen Appell) will play live in our 90.1 FM studios as our “house band.”
Big Bang Buffet company members in Kansas City are joining with longtime performer friends returning from Chicago, Austin, Orlando, and Rochester, who will participate in this live radio showcase.
This Big Bang Buffet reunion was inspired by the tragic killing of 49 people, on June 12, 2016, at the gay night club Pulse, in Orlando, Florida. “The Orlando massacre shook our entire nation, but for us individually, we were devastated,” BBB co-founder Mark Manning stated, “because from 1990 to 1996, Big Bang Buffet produced hundreds of hours of programming, at The Cabaret, a gay bar in KC.” Big Bang Buffet was founded in 1990 to provide venue for original works in performance art, spoken work, theatre, music, and visual arts.
