At 10:00 – The Electric Lungs join us live in our 90.1 FM Studios. We’ll hear tracks from the band’s release, “Simplified and Civilized.” This Kansas City based, 4-piece band was formed in 2012 by Tripp Kirby, Marc Bollinger, Eric Jones, and Jason Ulanet. Music writer – William Chaffin of KillYourTV KC wrote, “Simplified & Civilized” chugs forth with it’s rockabilly stomp spitting smooth, grinding, grooves and punk rock choruses & becomes an unrelenting beast of perpetual Clash-esque strutting. At 10:30 – Maria the Mexican returns to Wednesday Midday medley and the Band auction! The band began in 2011, in Chicago, when vocalists Maria and Tess Cuevas hired blues/funk musician Garrett Nordstrom to play Mariachi guitar. Having been lifelong musicians from the Midwest, Nordstrom and the Cuevas Sisters paired up with guitarist Jason Riley to form Maria the Mexican, an Americana Soul/Mexicana Groove band. At 11:00 – Not A Planet, will play LIVE in the 90.1 FM Studios. Their 2013 critically acclaimed debut release: “The Few, The Proud, The Strange” was part of Wednesday MidDay Medley’s 113 Best Recordings of 2013, and is one of our most played releases of the past two years. Formed as a power trio in 2010 with: Nathan Corsi, Liam Sumnicht, and Bill Sturges. Not A Planet was voted “Best Rock Band” in Kansas City’s 2013 Pitch Music Awards. They have played on stage and opened for: Matt and Kim, ZZ Ward, Seawolf, Free Energy, Maps and Atlases, Bright Light Social Hour, Ha Ha Tonka, The Dirty Heads, Presidents of the United States of America and Stone Temple Pilots. Nathan is also the curator and brainchild of Ink’s Middle of the Map Fest, April 22 – 25. Nathan has worked as a DJ in clubs in Lawrence and Kansas City.
