At 10:30 Mark talks with Christian Hankel about the world premiere of “Silver: A Noir Ballet,” July 17 through 25, at the H&R Bloch City Stage in Union Station, as part of the 2015 KC Fringe Fest. “Silver: A Noir Ballet,” features an 8-piece jazz ensemble playing 11 original compositions, with score and libretto by Christian Hankel. Directed by Tara Varney, with choreography by Evan Lovelace, Christian Hankel also serves as Producer. A studio recording was created and will be released during the Fringe Fest. “Silver: A Noir Ballet,” the recording, contains all 11 songs, and features many of KC’s hardest working musicians: Desmond Mason, Johnny Hamil, Shay Estes, Kyle Dahlquist, Rich Wheeler, Brenna Hayes, Tim Gillespie and Jerod Rivers. At 11:00 Mark talks with Krystle Warren who began her musical career in KC wowing audiences and collaborating with local jazz and pop musicians. After living in San Francisco and New York City, Krystle was signed to French label, Because Music, and moved to Paris and released her album “Circles.” Krystle has played many French and British television programs, including Later with Jools Holland. She has been compared to Tracy Chapman and Nina Simone, garnering critical acclaim and traveling all over the world, touring with Rufus Wainwright, Nick Cave, Norah Jones, and Joan As Police Woman. Krystle recently created her own music label: Parlour Door Music, to release: “Love Songs: A Time you May Embrace” a recording from a 13 day session in Brooklyn, where she recorded the songs live with 28 musicians including her band, The Faculty, alongside choirs, horn and string sections. Krystle wrote the songs, and released the music in Europe. In June, 2015, all twenty-four tracks recorded for “Love Songs” became available in a limited vinyl collector’s edition featuring a 14 page booklet with lyrics, rare photos, and liners; a dvd, A Time It Was, that showcases the recording of “You Can Take Me With You”; a trifold jacket adorned with new cover art, plus a specific number for each copy.
