At 10:20 Sondra Freeman and Rachel Mallin who join us to talk about Apocalypse Meow 9, the annual two-day event to benefit Midwest Music Foundation’s – Abby’s Fund. The weekend kicks off with a free, all-ages concert at Mills Record Company, 4045 Broadway Blvd, on Friday, Nov. 4, with Chris Meck & the Guilty Birds and Maria the Mexican. The main event on Saturday, Nov. 5, at recordBar, 1520 Grand Ave. features two stages showcasing music from: Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear, Rachel Mallin and The Wild Type, Emmaline Twist, The Invisible World, Shapiro Brothers, Nicholas Saint James, Crystal Clayton, and Jake Wells. At 10:40 Mark talks with Calvin Arsenia about his upcoming “Catastrophe” Album Release Show Tuesday, November 15, at recordBar, 1520 Grand Blvd, with Jametatone, and Shane Borth. Since Calvin Arsenia came home to KC in 2014, after living in Edinburgh, Scotland, he has independently released three EP recordings. He has played Folk Alliance International, Kansas City Fringe Fest, The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, The Kauffman Center For The Performing Arts. Standing at 6 foot 5 inches, Arsenia’s powerful vocals span a 3.5 octave range, while playing piano, bango, guitar and harp. Calvin teaches music to elementary students. At 11:00, writer and artist Maria Vasquez Boyd joins us to talk about Day of the Dead, a holiday celebrated in central and southern Mexico during November 1 & 2. The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art present a Day of The Dead Festival, Sunday, October 6, from 10:00 to 4:00 pm. Maria Vasquez Boyd is a founding member of the Latino Writers Collective. She is a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute, where she has also taught in the Design/Illustration Department. Maria has served as the gallery coordinator for the Guadalupe Center and The Writers Place. She is a contributing Artist at Mattie Rhodes, Prospero’s Books, and Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. Maria is host and producer of ARTSPEAK Radio, Wednesdays at Noon, on 90.1 FM KKFI – Kansas City Community Radio.
