At 10:30, award winning photo-journalist, Fally Afani, of I Heart Local Music, joins us to share music and information about Lawrence Field Day Fest, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, July 14-16, in Lawrence Kansas. At 11:00 we’ll talk with nationally recognized KC based dancer, performance artist, and choreographer, Cat Mahari, who will share information about ‪31st & Brklyn‬, a new space she is opening. Cat will talk about the present, past and future of 31st & Brooklyn and her experience of working with KIVA and the international community of lenders who’ve invested in the space. 31st & Brklyn will host, Currents of Reality, on Saturday, July 16, 6:00 to 9:00 pm, at 2123 East 31st Street, KCMO, 64109. The themes of the evening include: Connection of Water, and Diaspora Africa, with an introduction to current programming, associate artists, and our community gathering. At 11:30 Kansas City based musician, composer, singer, Calvin Arsenia joins us in our 90.1 FM Studios. Standing at 6 foot 5 inches, Arsenia’s powerful vocals span a 3.5 octave range, while playing piano, guitar, harp, and banjo. Calvin Arsenia has written, arranged and produced 5 EPs including Prose, his 2015 release that was recorded over the course of three live sessions at Edinburgh’s Napier University.
