Pat Kelly Board member of Welcome House joins hosts Liz Henry and Cassandra Mitchell. Welcome House is an organization that helps men start the life long recovery from alcoholism. Pat Kelly and his family have owned Kelly’s Tavern for years and today he will also tell us about his work with Welcome House.

The Welcome House was founded in 1968 for the sole purpose of educating and rehabilitating the adult male alcoholic/addict with the expressed mission of returning the individual to productive society free of alcohol and drug abuse. Since its inception, the Kansas City facility has served countless thousands of clients areawide.

Children Of Incarcerated Parents – Saving At Risk Families

When a parent goes to jail the cracks start to open up all around their children and many fall through those cracks and eventually end up in prison themselves. Children of Incarcerated Parents works to keep children in contact with their parent(s), provides them the support they need to overcome the absence of their parent(s) and provide them a safe place to be without recrimination.

Host Sunshine talks with Barbara Courtney of the Kansas City Chapter of Children of Incarcerated Parents about their programs that include providing meals during the summer vacation, life skills, parenting classes, video conferences and visits with their incarcerated parents.

The COIP mission is to be a support system for children of Incarcerated parents by modeling healthy family interaction The program goal is to reduce the rate of recidivism for the incarcerated parents and to aid in the process of family reintegration.
