The Mothers of Incarcerated Sons and Daughter Women Of Courage Awards and Celebration

Mothers of Incarcerated Sons and Daughters support group assists families and persons dealing with incarceration and re-entry into the community. Their members spend time lobbying in Jefferson City for prison legislative reforms and other efforts seeking “justice for all.” MISD meets the second Saturday of every month, noon to 2 pm at the Waldo Branch of the Kansas City Public Library, 201 E 75th St, Kansas City, Missouri.

MISD’s Women of Courage Awards will be held Saturday, Oct 8th 3-5 pm, Saint Monica Church, 16th & Paseo. The tickets for this fundraiser are Adults 20.00, children 10.00, you van get tickets on line by clicking the link in our calendar of events below.

The Criminal Justice Task Force will meet Monday, Octover 3rd from 6:45 to 8:45 pm at the Church of the Good Shepard, 4947 Chouteau Drive, KCMO. The Criminal Justice Task Force mission is to lobby the Missouri State Legislature for sentencing laws that are fair and humane. They believe that all Americans deserve basic human rights, including protection against cruel and unusual punishment, and that begins with a fair sentencing structure. The Kansas City Chapter of Missourian’s For Alternatives to the Death Penalty will meet Tuesday, October 4th from 6:30 to 8pm at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 4501 Walnut, KCMO. This month’s guest is Mitigation Specialist Kate Siska. She will explain why you should want to serve on a death-penalty jury, even if the idea of the death penalty offends you. She will also discuss Mitigation and “Mitigating Circumstances” and how they compare with “Aggravating Factors” in death penalty cases.

The KC Area Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children and Other Survivors of Homicide will hold their monthly meeting Friday, October 7th beginning at 7:30 PM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 2552 Gillham Road, KCMO. POMC makes the difference through on-going emotional support, education, prevention, advocacy and awareness. They meet to provide support and assistance to all survivors of homicide victims while working to create a world free of murder.
