Woody Derivatives: A Current Day Tribute to the Visions of Woody Guthrie

From No Depression’s blogger, Kim Ruehl … “perhaps what’s most remarkable about what Woody Guthrie did is that he created thousands of songs to address just about anything anyone could ever find themselves in the middle of. He gave us a foundation of music from which to draw in the moments when we don’t know what to say or think about what’s going on. He gave us songs for welfare lines and picket lines, for immigrants and women and those who feel stomped on. He gave us songs for people who work on farms and those who work in factories, songs about raising money and being outraised and outraged.”  Today’s troubadours that are staples of The Tasty Brew are carrying on the vision of Woodie Guthrie, including another artist featured on this episode, John Fullbright who is from…..wait for it…. Woody’s hometown of Okemah, Oklahoma. John will be appearing in a special Living Room Session  in The Retro Lounge at Knuckleheads Saloon, Thursday, July 18, 2012 at 8 p.m.
