Vi Tran--utilizing drama, spoken word, slam poetry, and folk music--chronicles his family's escape from Vietnam, through Khmer Rouge-controlled Cambodia, the refugee camps of Thailand and The Philippines, to their eventual arrival and new life in America. Musicians Joe Frogge & Kim Rausch McLaws take over the airwaves with a special ukulele invasion from the KKFI studio. Find out how this 4 stringed creature has reclaimed its' ground in recent music and popularity. Discover local ukulele clubs for beginners and seasoned strummers and learn about famous musicians around the world who played this tiny instrument.
We'll hear live performances from Deanna Eberhart, K.C. Sansmoniker, Meatball Ukulele Band, Ukulele Fight Club, Kim Rausch McLaws, Ken Kelly, Steve Matthews, Chuck Wilson, and Danny Fowler. We’ll play local music from Victor & Penny and their Loose Change Orchestra, Elvin (Izzy Isbel), Cindy Broome Townsend, Johnny Herberer, and The Flea Bitten Dawgs.
